VICKSBURG 鈥 Vicksburg College Carnival was a time for prospective Hinds students to explore what they truly wanted to do after high school.

鈥淚鈥檓 interested in welding because I like the hands-on feeling of it, plus I just can鈥檛 sit still anyway,鈥 said Jackson Fortenberry, a senior at St. Aloysius High School, among — high school juniors and seniors who attended the annual recruiting event. Schools in attendance included Vicksburg High School, Warren Central High School, St. Aloysius High School, Porters Chapel Academy and River City Early College High School.

Held each spring, the event gives prospective students a chance to find out about all programs of study available at the Vicksburg-Warren Campus. They also got information on admissions, financial aid, registration and more from faculty and staff during the come-and-go event, which also included free snacks and activities.

For several students, a recent project on the high school spurred an interest in potential careers.

鈥淚 did a project on computers and engineering recently, so I鈥檓 pretty interested in finding out more about it,鈥 said Willie Rogers, a senior at Porters Chapel Academy.

Landon Stanchfield, a St. Al senior, made much use of his time in the Electrical Technology lab to find out how he could grow an already curious skill set. 鈥淓lectrical engineering and related fields are what I鈥檓 most here for,鈥 Stanchfield said. 鈥淚鈥榲e always helped my dad around the house on electrical work, so I have a base in it.鈥

Madison Combs, a PCA senior, chatted with faculty about her desire to help turn her closeness to the medical field into a career. 鈥淢y dad is a nurse anesthetist and I want to help people with my skills,鈥 Combs said.
