As the Mississippi Humanities Teacher of the Year for Ϲ, percussion instructor Paul Heindl will spotlight videos created with the college’s percussion ensemble.

As part of his recognition, Heindl of Clinton will present “Compose, Commission, Connect” at 10 a.m. March 21 in the Vashti Underwood Muse Band Hall on the Raymond Campus.

His talk is “specifically about two pieces I’ve commissioned (Texas percussionist and composer) Ivan Trevino to write for Hinds percussion ensemble, some of the pieces that I’ve been commissioned to write and the video projects that we’ve done to go along with that,” Heindl said.

One of the video projects was shot at the Lions Club Park in Clinton. “I was in the park with my kids and saw the percussion instruments. I thought it would be neat to write a piece for percussion instruments using the park instruments and some other instruments,” he said.

Two other pieces were composed by Ivan Trevino, “Time is Relative” and “Reflector.”

“All three video projects were done with the Hinds percussion ensemble,” Heindl said.
