UTICA – Brandon Barnett of Vicksburg and Warren Central High School and Sasha Jordan of Hazlehurst and Hazlehurst High School each won a $500 Foundation Scholarship as a door prize for attending Utica Preview Day for academic school year 2025-26.

There were over 140 students who attended the event said Executive Director of Strategic Communications & Recruiting Emily Mitchell. It was an event planned by Hinds faculty and staff to give prospective students a chance to meet with them and ask questions. It was also an opportunity to check out all the clubs, talk to folks in admissions, financial aid and scholarships. Students also got a tour of the historical campus and the residence halls.

“We typically reach out to local high schools and invite them to bring their students. This year we had the highest number of registrations for the event in years. It’s a great opportunity for students to get to know the Utica Campus!”

The Utica Campus offers programs specific to its designation as a Historically Black College, giving the students resources they need for success.

“We are proud to retain our HBCU designation and traditions,” said Mitchell. “I think the success of Preview Day highlights the excitement surrounding our campus and it’s rich HBCU heritage. It was inspiring to see so many prospective students engaging with our faculty, exploring programs and envisioning their future at Hinds!” Mitchell said.
