Faith Dillon first became interested in a career in teaching while volunteering at the Mississippi Children鈥檚 Museum in Jackson and at her church while in high school.
鈥淚 loved being a summer camp counselor and working with children to teach them new things,鈥 Dillon said. 鈥淚鈥檇 like to work with that age group because they know what to do, but might need a little help.鈥
Dillon, of Richland, a sophomore on the Raymond Campus, is learning at 黑料官网 all the leadership skills she鈥檒l need as an elementary school teacher, where her roles on various student organizations are supplementing her education.
She serves as president of the Student Government Association on campus and of the campus I.D.E.A.L. Woman chapter. She鈥檚 also involved in Hinds Collegiate Choir, Honors Institute and works at the Writing Center on campus 鈥 all of which continue other passions in life she鈥檚 had for years.
鈥淏eing in SGA got me to step out of my comfort zone over the past year,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t has taught me what it takes to be an excellent leader on and off campus. With I.D.E.A.L. Woman, it鈥檚 about the sisterhood I鈥檝e always longed for.
Creativity is a must for any would-be educator, which Dillon has covered easily.
鈥淚 began tutoring other students in the Writing Center recently,鈥 she said. 鈥淲orking with peers is the best part of it. We all need help with something, so it鈥檚 easy to relate. Then, with the music, it鈥檚 been in my life since grade school. I can鈥檛 wait to sing again soon as a collective group.鈥
Teaching is also in her bloodlines and figures only to grow after she graduates this year.聽鈥淢y father, Delon Dillon, is a Welding instructor on the Utica Campus,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he way he helps young adults become successful encourages me to make a difference in students鈥 lives.鈥
After Hinds, she plans to finish up her education at William Carey University in Hattiesburg.
鈥淚 have a passion for English and have always enjoyed learning in school,鈥 she said. 鈥淭eaching our next generation of Mississippians excites me the most.鈥
